Wajiro = War Hero

My trip to Cuba was so spiritually fulfilling, but it also taught me a lot about my own culture. I didn't know where the origin of Wajiro came from. Cubans tend to call other Cubans from the country side Wajiros the term now a days means a country man without much culture...but that is not the original term at all. Wajiro came from the American word War Hero. During a time of war in Cuba the soldiers would go out into the country to fight and when the war was over and the soldiers were returning home the English settlers were calling them War Heroes. Since the Cuban people did not speak English and could not pronounce it the word became Wajiro.

I was proud to spend some time in the country where all the original  Wajiros  were from!
